Timeless Upon The Sea
In August of 1994 I was blessed to join the crew of the brig Pilgrim for a sail through and to the Channel Islands off of the coast of Southern California. All hands were volunteers who had this opportunity to sail the ship they love... except for me, a humble photojournalist. I was truly honored to be with them all and to this day I count that trip as one of the most beautiful highlights of my journey as a photojournalist. All the images were shot on slide film and until recently I have not had the time or resources to get them put into digital format. There are about 140 images... there may be a few more or less as I edit along the way... and as I get them cleaned up and presentable I will post them here.
Some of my best memories are... The warmth expressed to me by the entire crew... Standing watch amidships in the dark of the night... Sharing some grog with the first mate... Witnessing the love of the ship and the sea...
Even though it has been sixteen years to the day that I embarked on this adventure, there is no time that has changed the wonder and the beauty of what it is to sail aboard the Pilgrim.
My eternal thanks and gratitude to Dan Stetson who entertained and welcomed the idea of me tagging along and to all the crew who did the same.
